Kerala Governor expresses shock over Mofiya Parveen’s suicide, urges women to voice against dowry

Kochi: Kerala Governor Arif Mohammad Khan has expressed shock over Aluva native Mofiya Parveen’s suicide. On Sunday, he visited Mofiya’s family in Aluva around 2.30 pm.

He interacted with Mofiya’s parents and consoled them. MLA Anvar Sadath also accompanied the governor.

Addressing the media here, the Governor stated that Mofiya’s suicide was a tragic incident.

“Instead of thinking of suicide, women should dare to declare that they won’t give dowry,” he urged. At the same time, he also expressed disappointment over the lapses of Aluva police in dealing with Mofiya’s complaint.

“Kerala police is one of the best security forces in India. They used to take strict action in cases related to violence against women. But there are some exceptions. In such situations, public representatives should make a timely intervention like in this case,” the Governor reminded.
