Crushed head, amputated limbs, and the many faces of abortion procedures - Culture of Life (Part 3)

Crushed head, amputated limbs, and the many faces of abortion procedures - Culture of Life (Part 3)

Babies are destined to be killed during abortion, but what if they don’t die during the procedure? Instead of receiving the care they require, they are subject to slaughter. A baby born alive is at times immersed in a bucket full of water, unable to breathe, and will eventually succumb to death. At times the slaughtered babies are simply disposed like a piece of waste left to rot. The many ways to end the life of a baby through the abortion procedures are cruel, inhuman, and gruesome.

In cases where abortion does not transpire by taking drugs and pills, various cruel and brutal methods are opted to complete the procedure. A person who has knowledge of these procedures should never opt for an abortion.

1. Suction Method (Vacuum Aspiration)

A hand-held suction device or suction machine resembling a vacuum cleaner is used to suck babies who are six to 8 weeks of age from the uterus. The strong pull tears away the baby's arms, legs, and head from its fragile body. The swollen eyes are often scattered into the suction tube. The heart, chest and abdomen break away.
If it’s the baby’s head that touches the suction tube first, the tiny life will quickly pass away. If it’s the arm, leg or any other part of the body, the child is torn down into pieces. Each organ is sucked away inch by inch. The entire body of the baby once it comes out resembles just some lumps of flesh.

2. D & C (Dilation and Curette)

This method is used to kill unborn babies over three months of age because they are now too old to be killed using the suction method.
The cervix is expanded with a speculum (shaped like a duck’s bill). A sharp suction or scraping device called a curette is inserted into the uterus. The baby is then scraped part by part and scooped out. If the device is placed on the baby's head or chest, the baby will die quickly. If it is a different area of the body, death occurs slowly and painfully.
A baby wounded with a sharp curette will attempt to move away in the amniotic fluid flighting for life. The fight though is never won, and the lifeless baby is pulled out bit by bit.

3. D & E (Dilation and Evacuation)

D & E procedure is performed between four to six months following conception. The doctor inserts instruments that resemble a sharp knife and scissor into the uterus and dismembers the live baby inside the womb. The tool has sharp teeth that firmly grips the child’s arms, legs, torso, and head. One by one, the body parts are forcibly ripped off and removed from the uterus. The baby’s head at this stage is too big to pull out intact, so the doctor will crush it before pulling it out. Babies at this second-trimester stage have fingerprints and toenails, and they can feel pain. After the procedure the pieces are lined up to see if all the organs have come out. It is also worth mentioning that both methods mentioned previously cause excessive bleeding.

4. Prostaglandins

This procedure which involves taking Prostaglandins allows a woman to give birth at any period of pregnancy. Prostaglandins such as misoprostol, a synthetic prostaglandin E1 analog is administered orally or as a vaginal suppository. Labor thus induced, makes childbirth possible. Due to the high likelihood of the infant being born alive, abortion pills are given along with the above drugs. This will cause the baby to be “still born”. In Chennai last year, bodies of more than 30 aborted babies were found in a hospital waste bin.

5. Hysterotomy

Hysterotomy is a surgical procedure that involves making an incision in the uterus to remove the unborn baby. It is widely used to abort the baby in the second trimester. This method is often used in secrecy as it is against the law to kill a baby after it has come out of the mother's womb. Once a baby is taken out alive, it is often immersed in a bucket full of water. The baby gasping for breath will eventually die. These lifeless bodies are simply disposed in a waste bin left there forgotten without any remorse. A sharp contrast to when parents are desperately trying to save babies born prematurely.

6. Saline Poisoning

After the first three months, a very thick saline solution is mixed with amniotic fluid in the uterus to kill the baby in the womb. Immersed in the salt water, the baby begins to drink this fluid causing its body to burn, leading to a slow death. This procedure thankfully is rarely used nowadays.

7. RU 486

RU 486 is a chemical used to perform abortions, initially discovered by Dr. Etienne Soviet in France. This chemical causes the baby to die by destroying the hormone progesterone, which is essential to maintain and support pregnancy and fetal growth. This method, which is banned in foreign countries, is still widely used in India.

8. Brain Suction Method

This is a method of killing babies as old as eight or nine months old. The cervix is extended with arms, and a cord is inserted into the uterus, binding the legs, and pulling them out. The baby cries out in unbearable pain as he is pulled by the stick.
Consecutively, the abdomen, chest and neck are pulled out forcefully. Because of the size of the head, a hole is drilled into the head and the entire brain is pulled out through a tube. The baby's death cramps are clearly visible through a scan.

9. Partial Birth

This method is also used on eight or nine months old unborn babies. If it’s a “headfirst” presentation, the cervix is dilated, the baby’s skull collapsed, and the entire body is extracted through the cervix. If it’s the “feet first”, the body is removed through the cervix, the skull then collapsed, and the body then extracted through the cervix. A scan will clearly reflect a baby's trauma during this procedure. The defenceless child passes away in a pain that cannot be expressed. The partial-birth abortion is so horrific that many states in the US has banned this procedure.

Some of the procedures mentioned above are not currently used in many countries. However, this does not mean that a less gruesome procedure makes abortion less painful to the baby. A life taken is an individual wiped off from the world.
