Kerala steps up fight against Child labor, reward of Rs 2500 announced by the Women & Child Development Department

Thiruvananthapuram: The Women & Child Development Department has strengthened their fight against child labor in the state. A reward of Rs 2,500 is announced for those who report child labor or child abuse.

The Rewards Scheme has been announced for the effective implementation of ‘Prohibition of Child Labor’. The prize is awarded under the ‘Saranabalyam’ scheme implemented by the Department of Women and Child Development with the goal of ensuring a healthy and safe environment for children. The scheme targets to get rid of child labor, child begging and exploitation.

From November 2018 to November 2021, 565 children were assisted by the shelter scheme, department officials reported. The public can report any cases of child abuse to the Kozhikode District Child Protection Unit directly or by calling the number 0495 2378920 or emailing ‘[email protected]’.

Information should include the name of the institution where the child is found to be working in, name of the place, address and its photo, owner's name and information, photo of the child / children, or other identifiable information. Department officials said the identities of the informants would be maintained with confidentiality.
